eBay China – Opportunities and Challenges of Large Logistics – Report of the 48th CLGO Forum

The 48th SJTU & MIT CLGO Forum was held in the North Building of Antai College of Economics & Management on December 20th, 2013. In this forum, Mr. Zhang Kang, logistics supervisor of eBay Asia, was invited to give a brilliant speech on “eBay China opportunities and challenges of large logistics”. Mr. Zhang was graduated from University of South Florida, with a double major in information management system and MBA. He used to serve in US Postal Service as Asia Pacific manager and international development supervisor and charged the development of different kinds of international logistics products. Now he is in charge of the logistics strategy production and enforcement in Greater China and Australia market, and of the development of logistics solution in cross-border transaction.
Students listened to Mr. Zhang’s speech attentively
Mr. Zhang’s speech was well received by Antai teachers and students and attracted many professionals in Ecommerce and alumni, making the auditorium filled to capacity. He first of all briefed the current situation of eBay and its cross border transaction, and explained the process of how eBay sold its products to the world and its advantage in cross border transaction. Then he analyzed eBay’s global transportation and logistics solution strategy, and also clarified how to use payment system to operate cross border transaction. Now, Paypal is widely used in cross border transaction for its perfect foreign exchange, risk management and protection for trading parties, which is the most profitable part of eBay. At last, Mr. Zhang interpreted the service eBay provided to Chinese seller and gave a detailed and in depth explanation on seller service, logistics solution and classified management.
Mr. Zhang answered students’ questions patiently
In Q&A part, students raised questions on the development of Ecommerce, opportunity and challenge of Chinese Ecommerce, eBay’s logistics and storage system and conducted heated discussion around those issues.
This forum received extensive favorable comments, in which students not only knew more about how leading B2C company conducted cross border transaction, but also learnt the payment system and logistics solution.
