The 30th SJTU-MIT CLGO forum was held on April 20th, 2012 at SJTU Antai College of Economics and Management North Building Room 107. Ms Marjorie Yang, president of Esquel Group also a successful alumna of MIT and Harvard, was invited to the forum. She was once anointed as one of the most influential female entrepreneurs around the world.
This forum was presided over by Mr. Chen Xiaorong. Unlike previous ones, this time the forum was interactive. The questions proposed by students are kindly answered by Ms. Yang.
The first question was raised by Ma Jun from CLGO. He asked what the most difficult problem is during the establishment of Esquel Group. And the answer Ms. Yang gave was the trying. She said because everything was new, and everything was for the first time, it was really difficult for Esquel Group to work out its own models and methods.
The operational model of Esquel Group was also talked about during the form. Ms Yang said to build a complete downstream industrial chain was never the first choice of Esquel Group. If they had other options, they would choose merger instead of building its own one.
An unusual question popped up during the forum. Wang Rongrong from CLGO2011 asked: “textile industry is one that needs hard work, so normally parents would not want their children to choose textile industry. So why did you choose the one?”Ms. Yang said textile industry can bring a better life not only to its own employee but also to the vast amount of farmers who supply the cotton. And this really brings happiness and proud to her.
In the end, she expressed her opinions on social responsibility and bribery. The forum was ended successfully.
