Antai MBA held UK study tour program successfully

To broaden SJTU MBA students’ horizon, experience the world’s leading management concept and top business colleges’ training mode, SJTU Antai launched MBA overseas study tour programs from 2012.
For the purpose of experience the world’s top schools, the 2013 spring SJTU Antai MBA UK Cambridge business practice study tour program made students blend in first class schools’ campus life, experienced UK’s local culture. This tour lasted for 10 days, from April 11, 2013 to April 21, 2013, led by two teachers from Antai. The 47 people team visited Cambridge University, Oxford University, London School of Economics and London Business School. They also visited Cambridge Sci Tech Park, MINI COOPER factory, and British tourist sites.
Cambridge---The Flowing History
This tour’s most important destination was Cambridge University. Cambridge University was the university that cultivated most Nobel Prize winners in the world, she had 35 colleges, Trinity College and King’s College were the most famous. The tour members stayed at Corpus Christi College which has 600 years history.
Prof. Jochen Runde, the director of Cambridge Business College MBA program, gave two lectures to the students, they were “The Economic Perspective and Practice of Company Management” and “Strategic Behaviorism and The Application of Game Theory”. To the company management, Prof. Jochen Runde introduced all aspects that need to be concerned in company management, especially Ronald Coase and Oliver Williamson’s understanding to the Transaction Costs Theory. To the application of Game Theory, professor used game method to introduce the concepts of static game, dynamic game, repeated game, etc. In the class, the students participated in class interaction and communicated with the professor actively.
Prof. Matthias Holweg gave the lecture “Managerial Operations Research and the Inspiration of Global Automobile Industry”, it based on the rise and decline of Rover company, elaborated the development of British automobile history. Rover company had a fantastic record before, but it was eliminated in the history, its rise and decline made the students thought deeply about a company’s management.
Mr. Raghu Rau, a famous finance professor in Cambridge, gave the lecture “Behavioral Finance and Financial Market Valuation”. At first, he introduced the Market Efficiency Theory, then, he explained the Behavioral Deviation Theory, his humorous teaching style impressed the students a lot.
To broaden MBA students’ horizon, the tour group visited Cambridge Corporate Center, and St John’s Innovation Park. The Cambridge Corporate Center was composed of three departments, it focused on commercializing the world’s most potential and influential technology. The Cambridge Consultancy Services Company offered technology R & D consultancy services, mainly involved pharmaceuticals, manufacturing and retail industry. St John’s Innovation Park was the embryonic land of entrepreneurs. Besides the program, MBA students used spare time to hold Industry Sharing Session and SJTU Alumni Meeting.
The students also attended many cultural activities, they attended Cambridge table dinner, visited the colleges of Cambridge, tasted the British afternoon tea, etc. The colorful life experience made the students appreciated Cambridge’s fascination.
Oxford---The Origin of Culture
Oxford was a famous British historic and cultural place, Oxford University was located there. Oxford University was famous for her longest history, the university didn’t have a gate or fence, it’s located beside the streets silently.
Prof. Richard Whitington gave the lecture “Strategic Management and Management Practice of companies”, he mentioned that the strategic management of today’s companies should be more transparency and open minded, and the company’s strategy should be adjusted properly in order to adapt to the environment.
The tour group also visited Windsor Castle, at that day, the castle raised national flag, which meant that the Queen was living in the castle. The students watched the Queen portraits show and experienced the luxury of royalty.
London---A Diversified City
London, the capital city of British, brought together politics, economy, culture and recreation. In the two day trip, the traffic jams made the students experienced the life different from Cambridge and Oxford.
At London School of Economics, Prof. Luis Rayo gave the lecture “Happiness Economics and Enlightenment in Daily Life and Work”, to the professor, happiness could be fulfilled through oneself or the comparison of others. In the class, the topic attracted wide interest, made the students concerned about the application of happiness economics. After that, the students visited London Business School.
After finishing the experience of London’s universities, the students visited London’s landmarks. In the British Museum, they saw many historical cultural relics, during the afternoon tea time beside the Thames, they enjoyed both sides’ beautiful view, in the London Eye, they appreciated sunset view of London.
In the ten days British study tour program, the students experienced top universities’ educational level in the UK, enriched their management knowledge and life experience.
