On March 12, 2016, at the historic Fairmont Peace Hotel of Shanghai, Antai College of Economics and Management (ACEM), Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) and IE Business School announced the launching of two dual degree programs, an important step in the strategic partnership between the two. Dean Zhou Lin of ACEM and Dean Santiago Iñiguez of IE addressed a selected crowd of students, alumni and media friends at the launching ceremony, hosted by Associate Dean of ACEM Prof. Wan Guohua and Director of IE International Development Mr. Joël McConnell.
ACEM is IE’s first and only partner in mainland China to establish dual degree programs, an MBA dual degree program and an MIB-MIM dual degree program. These two programs allow students to obtain degrees from both top-ranked institutions, and to gain an advanced understanding of Chinese and European business perspectives. Students will be able to earn both degrees at a reduced tuition fee of 50% off after spending one year in Shanghai and the other in Madrid while completing all the academic requirements.
The launch of the dual degree programs also see the two prominent schools pooling faculty, alumni and corporate resources, jointly delivering the best programs and developing business talents with global vision. ACEM’s MBA and Master in Management program ranks 39th and 36th worldwide respectively by the Financial Times, both occupying the No.1 position in mainland China. IE’s MBA program ranks 12th worldwide and No.4 in Europe, while its Master in Management program stands among top 10 in the world. Students at IE Business School come from over 90 countries, and more than 35,000 IE alumni hold managerial positions in over 100 countries. Of the 300 IE faculty members, more than half are international faculty coming from 25 different countries. The diversity of student and faculty creates a highly international learning environment.
“ACEM and IE have worked closely for many years. Both schools emphasize and promote the education of innovation and entrepreneurship. The achievements our alumni have made in advancing global business are remarkable. I am pleased to bear witness to the launching of the dual degree programs and the development of future business leaders.” said Dean Zhou Lin during the launch ceremony.
“IE values cooperation with Chinese counterparts and the dual degree programs are the product of many years’ hard work. Spain, where IE Business School is located, connects Europe with Latin America, whereas ACEM is located in the financial center of China. We hope to absorb the essences of both western and eastern business knowledge in order to develop high-impact business leaders with global perspectives“, said Dean Santiago Iñiguez.
Innovation and entrepreneurship are the two cornerstones of IE Business School. And the creation of Venture Lab, which provides counsel for start-up companies and simulates actual problems happen during the initial period of setting up a business, has promoted that very spirit.
ACEM is the first business school in mainland China to launch entrepreneurship education and has developed a three-step educational system of “theory-competition-practice”. The MBA Entrepreneurship Competition launched in 2002 has become a prominent contest attracting top business school students throughout the Greater China Area. In the past three years, ACEM’s MBA Entrepreneurship Fund has supported 37 start-up projects, handing out financial support worth over 11 million yuan in total.
ACEM's Master in International Business program is a star program with learning business in China as its core feature. Students in this program are highly diverse in terms of cultural background. They come from over 30 countries across Asia, North America, Europe, Africa, with over 70% from western countries.
