Ceremony Marking the Start of New Semester for Antai Postgraduates 2016

On Sep 16, Antai College of Economics and Management (ACEM) welcomed over 900 new postgraduates during the opening ceremony of the 2016 semester.
Wang Yaguang, Executive Vice President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) Graduate School addressed the ceremony. President Wang extended warm congratulations, retraced the 120-year history of the university, and encouraged students with a quote from the university’s former president Tang Wenzhi, ‘get first-class education, achieve first-class success, and become a first-class citizen’.
During his speech, Dean Zhou Lin of ACEM introduced recent progress made by the college evidenced by rising world rankings, international accreditations and a transformation towards a business school with global perspective. Dean Zhou also recounted the current situation of the Chinese economy, drawing on his personal learning experience to urge students to seize the good opportunity and work hard.
Professor Zeng Saixing from Department of Innovation and Strategy and Professor Lu Ming from Department of Economics both delivered speeches on behalf of the faculty. Professor Zeng outlined his anticipation for all the students, while Professor Lu offered a brief analysis on the structural changes of the Chinese economy.
Owen Shi, ’99 MBA and CEO of Gruner+Jahr China, a large printing and publishing firm headquartered in Hamburg, Germany and owned by Bertelsmann, also spoke during the ceremony. Mr. Shi recalled his days of studying in business schools home and abroad, praised ACEM’s global perspective and top teaching quality, and called on the students to appreciate the resources provided on campus and strive to enhance their capabilities.
Xu Tianyang from Masters 2015 issued warm welcome to all the new students as representative from fellow seniors, and three new students shared their expectations for life on campus.
ACEM Party Secretary and Professor Yu Mingyang entertained the audience with three vivid stories, pointing out to them that a sense of responsibility, a level of gratitude and a calm state of mind is essential for everyone studying in SJTU. He wished all the students a bright start for their postgraduate study, and through diligent study, an even better future.
