Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) recently released the Global MBA Rankings 2022. QS ranked 286 programs this year from 45 study destinations, and many more were analyzed. Data was collected in 2021, using three surveys: the QS Global Employer Survey, the QS Global Academic Survey and a survey completed by the business schools themselves. Data received was based on 2020 graduating class (for employment info) and incoming 2020 class for class composition.

In this ranking, the SJTU Antai MBA program ranked the 60th, steadily among the top 100 in the world and continuing leading the business schools of Mainland China.

A total of 13 criteria form the basis of five key indicators that programs were ranked on: “employability”, “entrepreneurship and alumni outcomes”,  “return on investment”, “thought leadership” and “class & faculty diversity”.

Employability 40%): The backbone of the rankings is the QS Global Employer Survey, which asks employers to select the schools that they prefer to hire from. The Survey has now been running over 20 years. Employers across all sectors and industries take part in the survey, and include Facebook, Google, Uber, Wells Fargo, Bank of America etc. The total score for this indicator also considers the employment rate for students, three months post-graduation, based on MBACSEA standards.

Entrepreneurship and Alumni Outcomes (15%): The Alumni Outcomes Index looks at the schools associated with over 50,000 CEOs, executives and board members at the biggest companies in the world including Apple, Amazon, UBS, IBM, Microsoft, JPMorgan Chase, etc. QS takes into account more than 150 global and regional lists. Compared with the last ranking, QS added 14% of alumni, and the number of students starting a business in each program was also added.

Return on Investment (20%): QS looked at a 10-year return on investment, mapping average post-MBA salaries against average salaries before enrollment, taking into account forgone salary as well as tuition and cost of living. Salary increases are factored into both pre and post-MBA salary, with the latter increasing at a higher rate, as you would expect. QS believes that 10 years gives a representative and meaningful return on investment insight compared with some rankings that use a five-year approach.

Thought Leadership (15%): This indicator is based on the answers of 260920 academics from 60 countries around the world. Academics name the institutions which they believe are the strongest in their subject area. QS also includes research impact. For the QS World University Rankings by Subject, QS measures citations per paper, rather than citations per faculty member. Another factor considered in this indicator is the percentage of faculty with PhD.

Class & Faculty Diversity (10%): To give a clear representation of diversity within a program, QS looked at the percentage of female students and faculty members (Schools with an equal percentage of male and female receive the highest possible scores). QS also looked at the percentage of international faculty overall at the business school, and the international mix of students on the MBA program.

Earlier, QS also released the global MBA breakdown rankings, providing a global business school perspective in different subject areas and providing more reference information for future MBA students. SJTU Antai MBA program ranked 31st in the world and 1st in China for entrepreneurship MBA; and ranked 50th in the world and 1st in Mainland China for Finance MBA.

In addition, in the World University Rankings by Subject 2021 released by QS, ACEM ranked among the top 50 in the world in three subjects for the fourth consecutive year. The QS World University Rankings by Subject are compiled annually to help prospective students identify the leading universities in a particular subject. The QS World University Rankings by Subject 2021 cover a total of 51 disciplines, grouped into five broad subject areas. In QS rankings by subject in 2021, there are 4 subjects related to economics and management, in which ACEM all ranked among the top 60, improving steadily.
