ACEM SJTU-Tmall Ecological Lab officially inaugurated -- Both parties signed strategic cooperation agreement

On September 8, Antai College of Economics and Management (ACEM) of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Tmall Ecological Lab. Meanwhile, ACEM SJTU-Tmall Ecological Lab was officially inaugurated, which is the first physical lab jointly developed between Tmall Ecological Lab and a well-known university.


The Antai College of Economics and Management (ACEM) of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), which ranks the first class among Chinese business schools, enjoys two major characteristics. As the helm of the school, Dean Chen Fangruo introduced that the first is the industrial characteristics. The college adheres to the concept of "two types of scholarship, horizontal (academic) and vertical (industry), reinforcing each other and connecting theory with practice" and implements the strategy of parallel development of discipline research and industry research. The second is technology-based characteristics, promoting the integration with science and technology and cultivating multi-disciplinary talents. Dean Chen proposed that the two sides should jointly establish a more open system and a more complete ecosystem, carry out cooperation in more fields, synergize the advantages of both sides in academic research and commercial digital resources, promote industry research together and deliver more industry cases and academic theories. At the same time, it is also expected that the college could join hands with Tall to organize senior management talent training, and carry out cooperation in cultivating practical, digital, and multi-disciplinary talents who can integrate both industries and specialties.


ACEM SJTU-Tmall Ecological Lab will become one of the joint laboratories of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Jing Runtian, Associate Dean of ACEM, SJTU pointed out that at present, Shanghai Jiao Tong University has established a benchmarking research center for liberal arts and built a key laboratory in the field of humanities and social sciences, whose innovation lies in focusing on the field of humanities and social sciences while integrating science and technology. This initiative is designed with three purposes: first is to align with the mega-trend of technological integration in liberal arts education, and to pilot the mode of liberal arts teaching in the digital environment; second is to give full play to the value of the laboratory in a wider range and reflect the sharing role; third is to explore mechanism innovation and try more integration and interaction. In the future, more benchmarking achievements will be made. Associate Dean Jing proposed that the concepts and achievements of ACEM SJTU-Tmall Ecological Lab could be more understood internationally.


Dean Chen Fangruo, Associate Dean Yin Haitao, etc. visited Alibaba Xixi Park in mid-July to carry out academic exchange and cooperation with Tmall Ecological Lab. After that, the teachers from the Marketing Department and Management Science Department of ACEM had many in-depth exchanges with the relevant business leaders of Taobao Tmall Merchant Brand Strategy, and initially established the cooperation mode in scientific research, research finding and case study. Yin Haitao, Associate Dan of ACEM, SJTU proposed and hoped that this cooperation could become an important long-term cooperation, go though the transition period smoothly, promote the actual implementation of cooperation projects and realize ideas put forward at the present stage by expressing the demands of both parties more pragmatically.


The world economic context and China's economic model continue to change, experiencing the evolution of "Made in China--Made for China--Designed for China," and the live-streaming economy has brought disruptive changes to business logic. Tmall is actively improving its position and looking at the industry from the perspective of the sector, so it has established an industrial development center and put forward the concept of twin drivers of the whole life cycle of consumers and the life cycle of goods. Liu Yang, General Manager of Merchant Brand Strategy Department of Taobao Tmall pointed out that thanks to the years of accumulation, Tmall has gathered a large number of practical cases, which need to be more systematically sorted out on this basis. At the same time, ACEM embraces an open attitude towards development and has rich experience in advising on government, undertaking projects, training talents and providing social services. The two sides will carry out multi-level and multi-dimensional cooperation. Tmall will explore the pilot work on digital talent cultivation with the district government, and expects ACEM to join hands for establishing the identification standards and cultivation policies for digital talents. Such collaboration will be based on the digital and open capabilities of ACEM SJTU-Tmall Ecological Lab.


Tmall Ecological Lab is an open innovation platform serving the ecosystem, helping service providers to offer customized digital business solutions and products for brands. Based on the key scenarios of the brand, the key indicators can enable the service providers to provide effective Scenario as a Service for the brand. By providing standard scenario modules and modeling capabilities, it supports service providers to formulate and implement scenarios, thus realizing large-scale application of digital services for the brand.


Specifically, ACEM SJTU-Tmall Ecological Lab will jointly carry out case studies, create its own discourse system, and carry out in-depth cooperation in various forms, such as expert comment, industry research review, classroom teaching case, case center, industry analysis, etc. The first phase will promote the development of new brands from the perspective of "people-goods-place". In addition, both parties will jointly promote academic research, give play to the guiding value of academic theory to practical work, and enhance the supporting role of digital resources for academic research. In the meantime, the two sides will also explore the combination of business practice and business theory to jointly propose more comprehensive policy recommendations, and promote the establishment of identification standards and cultivation guidelines for digital talents.


The signing and unveiling ceremony was successfully held. It is expected that both parties can complement each other's advantages, make synergestic innovation, jointly improve brand image, build brand power in an all-round way, support healthy operation of the enterprise and boost the development of business theory.
