On October 26, the Times Higher Education (THE) released its World Subject Rankings for 2024, showcasing academic excellence across various disciplines. This year’s rankings encompassed 11 subjects, ranging from Arts & Humanities, Business & Economics, Clinical & Health, Computer Science, Education, Engineering, Law, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Psychology, to Social Sciences.

In the category of Business and Economics, ACEM achieved a remarkable global ranking of 25th, ascending five places from the previous year and marking our best performance in recent years. Notably, we secured the 3rd position among Chinese universities, with Tsinghua University and Peking University making it to the global top 10.

Additionally, our parent university, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, demonstrated outstanding achievement across multiple disciplines, landing in the global top 50 for Engineering, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Computer Science. The Engineering department, in particular, outshone the rest, achieving a global rank of 23.

It is noteworthy to mention that the subject rankings employed the same 18 performance indicators as the 2024 THE World University Rankings, categorized under five primary criteria: Teaching, Research Quality, Research Environment, International Outlook, and Industry.

The Business and Economics ranking encapsulated the performance of universities in disciplines such as Business & Management, Accounting & Finance, Economics & Econometrics. The weighting for this subject area was distributed as follows: (1) Teaching: The Learning Environment constituted 30.4%; (2) Research Environment: Research Output, Research Income, and Research Reputation accounted for 31.6%; (3) Research Quality: Research Rigor, Research Influence, and Outstanding Research comprised 25%; (4) International Outlook: International Staff, International Students, and International Collaborations made up 9%; and (5) Industry: Industry Income and Patents represented 4%.

This accomplishment highlights ACEM’s commitment to academic excellence and our significant standing in the global higher education landscape.
